Mass Transport System goes to Public Bid

Panama's metropolitan bus service will be divide in sub areas, and each concessionary will operate a minimum of 500 buses.

The transport authority of Panama is inviting bids for the operation of the public transportation system in the metropolitan area of Panama. The basis for the bidding process was written in association with the World Bank and the Andean Development Corporation.

The deadline for interested companies is September 4th, at 3:00 PM, when they have to present their documents in the headquarters of the ATTT, the transport authority. The documents should include - among others - notes regarding capacity and experience in transport management, an expression of interest to participate in the process, and updated financial statements.

Six Companies Interested in Panama's Transport System

August 2009

Two national and four foreign companies have applied to participate in the bidding process for the public transportation system.

Other companies interested have until September 4th to present their documentation and participate, said the director of the Transit and Terrestrial Transport Authority (ATTT).

Urban Transportation Proposal Presented in Panama

Transportation workers presented an urban transportation modernization plan supported by the Blue Bird Corporation of the United States.

The project proposes the incorporation of buses into the automated card payment system. The Blue Bird Corporation would be the supplier and the Transtarjetas company from Panama would be responsible for producing the plastic cards, distributing them, and promoting their use.
