Market Opportunities in Iran?

With the aim of signing agreements on economic and trade issues, Nicaraguan authorities visited Iran, but for Nicaraguan businessmen there is no possibility of "developing markets with that country.”

Ortega's regime seeks to strengthen its relations with Iran, since it recently sent to the National Assembly for approval, the "Agreement for the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments between Nicaragua and the Islamic Republic of Iran."

According to the productive sector, if this agreement is reached, there will be no significant benefits for Nicaragua, which is currently in the midst of an economic crisis.

José Adán Aguerri, president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), told Elnuevodiario.com that "... We don't have any kind of possibilities to develop markets with these countries. Since 2008, we have said that with this type of countries, such as Iran, they are not going to achieve absolutely anything, beyond the photo for the official who traveled and was attended. Beyond that, we have never seen more than the photo itself."

Azucena Castillo, a member of the Assembly, believes that "... Nicaragua cannot be hostile to these countries, nor can it seek them out as commercial partners or ask them to invest.
