Alfredo Volio, vice-president of the National Chamber of Pineapple Producers and Exporters (Canapep), said that "... after serious transport problems to send this fruit to China, in November last year the producers and the head of Comex, Dyalá Jiménez, traveled to that country and raised the problems to China Ocean Shipping Company (Cosco)."

Volio added that after multiple negotiations with representatives of China, which lasted for about a year, the maritime service to be repeated every 22 days was enabled.

Maritime Transports: Costa Rica - China Route Suspended

November 2019

Because of the lower-than-projected volume of cargo shipped on the September and October services, the maritime route between Port Moin and Shanghai was suspended.

In recent weeks the situation has turned unexpectedly, as late last month Costa Rican exporters announced that they planned to negotiate for 2020 an increase in the frequency of the route, however, the low volume of cargo sent to the Asian giant, caused the interruption of service.

Better Logistics for Trade with Asia

January 2016

The arrival of the first ships with capacity of 13 TEUs at the Panamanian port of Balboa is evidence of how shipping services are changing, a prelude to the opening of the expanded Canal.

Trips taken by cargo bound for East Asia with two major shipping companies in the world, Maersk Line and MSC, will be shorter, thanks to the port at Balboa now being able to manage ships carrying over 13,000 TEUs's, a capacity which is close to the amount carried by ships which will pass through the expanded Canal.
