Manufacturing and Agricultural Exports Increase 8%

Between January and August of this year, Honduran exports of manufacturing and agricultural products reached $1.284 million, 8% more than the same period in 2017.

Mostly explained by the increase in exports of paper and cardboard, plastics and their products, bananas, melons and watermelons, sales of manufacturing and agricultural products that together reached US$1,284.3 million were 8.1% higher than the US$96.6 million accumulated in the same period of 2017.

According to the Central Bank of Honduras, from the products classified within the manufacturing activity a value of US$719.6 million was exported, exceeding in US$78.8 million (12.3%) to the registered in the same period of the previous year. Sales of paper and cardboard outstand with US$108.7 million, higher by US$49.6 million compared to August of the previous year, due to higher exports of containers and cardboard boxes to the U.S., Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

From plastics and their products, foreign currency was generated for a value of US$78.9 million, reflecting an increase of US$16.1 million (25.7%) in inter-annual terms; behavior linked to the increase of 15.9% in the exported volume, mostly to the US, added to an improvement in the price of 8.4%. On the other hand, the exportations of iron and its products totaled US$122.8 million, higher by US$15.8 million to the amount observed in the same period of the previous year; partially associated with the increase in the price by 11.9% (US$13.1 million), highlighting Guatemala and El Salvador as receivers of these products.

El Salvador: Trade Deficit Increases to 14%

During the first five months of the year, the balance of the country's trade balance reached -$2,521 million, 14% higher than that reported in the same period in 2018.

From the Central Reserve Bank report:

El Salvador's exports up to May of this year registered a total of US$2,490.8 million, 1% less than the same period of 2018, informed the Central Reserve Bank.

El Salvador: Exports Up 5%

Between January and May of 2018 exports totaled $2.516 billion, 5% more than in the same period in 2017, and again sales in the manufacturing industry accounted for most of the increase.

The Central Reserve Bank reported that "... The maquila industry ended the period with exports that reached US $518.6 million, higher by US $71.8 million compared to the same period in 2017, with a year-on-year growth of 16.1%."

El Salvador: Exports Up 6%

May 2018

Between January and April of 2018, exports exceeded $2 billion, 6% more than in the same period in 2017, and manufacturing sales accounted for most of the increase.

The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported that during the first four months of the year "...  Exports to the United States grew by 3.1% with a total of US $842.2 million, higher by US $25.2 million than the demand for the same period in 2017."

El Salvador: Manufacturing Exports Up 11%

May 2017

Foreign sales by the manufacturing sector in the first quarter of the year grew by 11% compared to the same period in 2016.

From a report by the Central Bank of Honduras:

In the first quarter of 2017, El Salvador exported US $1,414.2 million, up by US $134.4 million compared to the same period in 2016, equivalent to a year-on-year growth of 10.5%, the Central Reserve Bank reported. Exports of agricultural goods increased by 8.6% and those from the manufacturing industry by 10.7%, both contributing to the performance reported in the first three months of the year.
