Manufacturing activity increases 17%

Partially explained by an increase in the inventory of raw materials, in September, the Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index in the Dominican Republic registered a 17% increase with respect to the same month in 2017.

Thursday, October 25, 2018

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that the Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index (IMAM) fell from 61.5 in August to 52.7 in September, which is mainly attributed to the decrease in sales and production. It is kept, for the eighth consecutive month, above the 50.0 limit. It also shows greater than the same period in 2017, when it was at 45.0.

Regarding IMAM's behavior, according to the size of the companies, micro companies increased their index from 44.2 to 47.1, but remain below the 50.0 barrier for the third consecutive month. SMEs fell very slightly from 50.0 to 49.7, falling below the 50.0 barrier, and have been gradually falling since April 2018.

About the variables examined, 4 out of 5 showed decreases: "sales volume" from 68.2 to 54.0; "production volume" from 66.9 to 53.5; "Employment" slightly decreased from 52.7 to 51.5 and "supplier delivery time" decreased from 47.3 to 44.5 (keeping below the 50.0 barrier for the fourth consecutive month). In contrast, it showed a slight increase in "raw material inventory" from 56.8 to 57.0.
