Manufacturing: Exports up 5%.

During January, Salvadoran manufacturing exports totaled $492 million, an amount 4.9% higher than that reported for the same month in 2019.

Exports from El Salvador in January 2020 totaled $509.8 million, $26.5 million more than in January 2019, with a 5.5% year-on-year growth, while in terms of volume it grew 23.7%, reported the Central Reserve Bank.

The document states that "... The manufacturing industry, including maquila, exported US$491.6 million with a 4.9% year-on-year growth, equivalent to US$23 million more compared to the same period in 2019. The main sectors that contributed to the growth of the manufacturing industry, compared to January of last year were: the manufacture of food products (US$105.2 million), the manufacture of clothing (US$94 million), the maquila manufacturing industry (US$90.9 million), the manufacture of textile products (US$40 million) and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products with US$32.3 million; these sectors represented 71.1% of total exports.

The United States demanded Salvadoran goods for US$191.2 million, which represent 37.5% of the total exported, US$4.1 million less than in January 2019 with -2.1% year-on-year growth; Honduras followed with US$79.4 million, higher by US$1.7 million (2.2% more); Guatemala with US$75.9 million (3.7% more), while Nicaragua and Costa Rica acquired US$33.9 and US$23.6 million with -0.4% and 6% growth rates, respectively.

Salvadoran Exports Up 7%

During the first two months of the year, the country's foreign sales totaled $1,015 million, 7% more than the amount reported for the same period in 2019, a rise that is largely explained by the behavior of manufacturing industry exports.

The manufacturing industry, including maquila, exported $974.9 million with a 6.1% annual growth, equivalent to $56.4 million more compared to the same period in 2019, reported the Central Bank.

Sales to the rest of the world of manufacturing industry, including maquila goods, reached US$5.319 million in November 2018, representing a 3% growth of the sector, informed the Central Reserve Bank.

Because of the sales behavior of the manufacturing industry, from January to October, the country's sales abroad totaled $5.008 million, 3% more than what was reported in the same period of 2017.

The manufacturing industry, including maquila goods, reached US$4,845.7 million exported up to October 2018, which shows a growth of 3.4% of the sector, reported the Central Reserve Bank.

July 2018

Between January and May of 2018 exports totaled $2.516 billion, 5% more than in the same period in 2017, and again sales in the manufacturing industry accounted for most of the increase.

The Central Reserve Bank reported that "... The maquila industry ended the period with exports that reached US $518.6 million, higher by US $71.8 million compared to the same period in 2017, with a year-on-year growth of 16.1%."
