Manufacturing Activity Stagnates in 2019

During December of last year in the Dominican Republic, the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity did not register significant variations, when compared to the level reported at the end of 2018.

When comparing the level registered between November and December 2019, an 11% monthly increase is reported in the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM), going from 53.1 to 58.7, according to figures from the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD).

Eldinero.com.do reviews that "... This behavior was caused by the variables sales volume and production volume, although the variables delivery time suppliers and employment also showed an increase. Only the raw material inventory variable decreased in that period."

Sales volume went from 49.1 in November to 63.0 in December 2019; production volume went from 54.8 in November to 61.1 in December 2019. Employment rose from 46.5 in November to 52.2 in December 2019. Delivery time for suppliers increased from 59.2 in November to 63.9 in December 2019. Meanwhile, the inventory of raw materials decreased from 57.2 in November to 51.5 in December 2019."

Manufacturing Activity Falls 4%

During January in the Dominican Republic the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity registered a 4% decrease with respect to the previous month, variation that is explained by a contraction in the volume of sales and production.

When comparing the figures with those reported at the end of 2019, an increase is registered, since in January the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) increased to 62.5, while in November 2019 it was 53.2 and went up to 58.7 in December 2019.

Explained by decreases in production and sales volumes, in June of this year the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity registered a decrease of 16% compared to May 2018.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) fell sharply in June, going from 66.5 in May to 55.6 in June. This is the lowest level in the last five months, although it still remains above the 50.0 barrier.

Manufacturing Activity at Historical High

June 2018

Between the months of May 2017 and 2018, the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity in the Dominican Republic registered an increase of 6%, rising from 62.6 to 66.5.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that "... The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD)'s Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) amounted to 66.5, a historical high for the last year. It has been over the 50.0 barrier for four months."

Strong Recovery in Manufacturing Activity

May 2018

Between the months of April 2017 and 2018, the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity in the Dominican Republic registered an increase of 41%, rising from 43.3 to 61.2.

The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reported that   "... The Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) fell from 64.04 points in March to 61.18 in April 2018, staying above the 50.0 barrier."
