Manufacturing Activity Falls 4%

Because of the drop in the inventory of raw materials and the behavior of the delivery terms taken by suppliers, in May the Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index in the Dominican Republic dropped 5% with respect to the same month in 2018.

Wednesday, July 3, 2019

Regarding the inter-monthly variation, the Monthly Manufacturing Activity Index (IMAM) of the Dominican Republic Industries Association (AIRD) rose from 56.6 in April to 58.9 in May 2019. Out of the five variables that make up the index, the two with the highest weight experienced an increase with respect to the previous month.

IMAM remains above the 50-point threshold, reflecting that economic conditions and prospects in the manufacturing sector remain positive.

"With regard to the variables examined, they were weighted and adjusted for seasonality. Two of the five variables showed increases: "sales volume" went from 57.4 in April 2019 to 63.7 in May 2019; "production volume" went from 60.4 in April of this year to 65.2.

When adjusted and weighted, the "employment" variables decreased from 50.6 in April to 50.3 in May 2019.  "Inventory of raw materials" went from 60.2 in April to 46.8 in May 2019, and "term of supply deliveries" went from 49.5 in April to 48.1 in May 2019," explains the AIRD report.
