$4 Million in Railroad System Maintenance

Panama's Metro is tendering for the preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance service of the railroad track, catenary and sizing equipment subsystems of Line 1.

"El Metro de Panamá S.A. (MPSA) will have a management software (SAP) by means of which it will notify via electronic communication any incident that may occur in the systems. MPSA will be responsible for providing training on the use of the tool.

In the event that the breakdown is detected by an employee of the Contractor, the latter must immediately notify the MPSA Representative, before taking the necessary initiatives to restore the installations to normal operation in the shortest possible time. In these cases, the same procedure shall be used as with an incident or emergency call issued."

Reference value: $3,612,500.

Deadline for receipt of bids: May 8, 2020.

Tender for Line 3 of Panama Metro

September 2018

Specifications are being published for the design, construction of civil works, auxiliary installations, supply and installation of an integral system that includes monorail rolling stock for the third Line.

According to details of previous studies, Line 3 of the Panama Metro will be located between the provinces of Panama and Panama West, covering part of the districts of Panama and Arraiján, running through an area that incorporates seven towns. The total area of influence of the project (directly and indirectly) is 1808.570 hectares, in which the area of direct influence occupies an estimated 160,697 hectares, while the area of indirect influence is 1647.873 hectares."

$840 million Train Purchase Approved

August 2018

Metro de Panamá has been authorized to acquire all of the equipment and wagons for Line 3, from the company Hitachi Ltda, for $840 million.

The equipment purchased will be for Line 3 of the Metro, which will connect the West with the city and will have 26 kilometers of elevated length and 14 stations. The monorail system will be used, with trains of 6 wagons each, with an initial capacity to transport 20,000 people in peak hour per direction.

Costa Rica: $52 million for New Trains

June 2018

Due to the lack of rolling stock for operating the service in the GAM, the Incofer has announced that it is processing the purchase of between eight and ten new trains.

The train collisions that happened in the years 2016 and 2017, have meant that currently only seven of the 13 Apollo trains are in use in the system, therefore the Costa Rican Railway Institute (Incofer) has had to reduce trips.

Panama Metro to Buy 70 Carriages

June 2016

In order to meet growing demand 70 new carriages will be purchased which will take the current total from 20 to 25 trains of 5 carriages each.

From a statement issued by the Panama Metro Secretariat:

Every day of the year an average of 270 thousand passengers use the Metro facilities.  Statistics show a low number of incidents that could affect the service, demonstrating a high level of dependability in all facilities and equipment, which exceeds that of other rail systems, taking into account that it operates for 18 hours a day, 365 days year.
