Liquid Pumps: Business with Mexico Upwards

From January to March 2020, Central America imported $56 million in liquid pumps, and purchases from companies in Mexico grew 8% compared to the first quarter of 2019.

Panamanian Companies, Main Buyers
In the first three months of 2020 the main importer of liquid pumps and parts was Panama, with $16 million, followed by Guatemala, with $15 million, Costa Rica, with $9 million, Honduras with $7 million, El Salvador with $6 million and Nicaragua with $4 million.

Regarding the year-on-year variation of purchases abroad, for the period in question El Salvador reported a 19% increase, followed by Honduras with 17% and Guatemala with 5%.

Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua were the markets in the region that registered negative variations, which amounted to -10%, -14% and -18%, in that order.

Variation in Regional Business
Between January and March 2019 and the same period in 2020, the value imported into the region decreased 2%, from $57 million to $56 million. For its part, the value imported from Mexico for the periods in question increased, in this case by 8%, from $3.1 million to $3.3 million.

Main Sellers
In the first three months of the year, 46% of the value imported from Central America came from the United States, 14% from China, 6% from Mexico, 4% from Japan, 3% from Spain and 3% from Germany.

In the period from January to March of the last eight years, China has been the market of origin of the imports that has grown the most, since in 2012 it monopolized 6% of the purchases and in 2020 it reached 14% of the total.
