Less Paperwork for Panamanians to Enter U.S.

The U.S. has chosen Panama to be part of the Global Entry agreement which allows expedited entry into the airport in that country.

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Tocumen International Airport is considered one of the safest in the region, one of the reasons leading to Panama being one of the countries chosen to form part of the bilateral agreement for trusted travelers known as Global Entry.

Soraya Valdivieso, advisor to the Ministry of Public Safety and in charge of entry of Panamanians to that database, said that "the measure allows Panamanian citizens to travel more expeditiously to the U.S. without having to pass through the strict controls that there are in the nearly 45 air terminals in the country."

Travellers will have to provide fingerprints using a machine similar to an ATM where their data is verified and their entry into the country cleared. This process could take about five minutes, to do what currently takes up to two hours.

" ... The economic benefits are incalculable, as Panamanian businessmen will have enough time to go to more business meetings ."
