Laptops and Tablets: Regional Purchases Grow 13%

Imports in the sector are still on the rise, as in the first quarter of 2019 companies from Central American countries imported $118 million in laptops and similar devices, 13% more than in the same period of 2018.

Costa Rica, Main Buyer
During the first three months of the year, the main importer of laptops and tablets in Central America was Costa Rica with $39 million, followed by Guatemala with $26 million, El Salvador with $22 million, Panama with $15 million, Nicaragua with $9 million and Honduras with $8 million.

Regional Business Upwards
Between the first quarter of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the value imported into the region rose 13%, from $104 million to $118 million.

For the periods in question, imports from China increased 58%, from $37 million to $58 million.

Origin of Imports
From January to March 49% of the value imported into the region came from China, 41% from the US, 1% from Switzerland, 1% from Vietnam and 1% from Spain.
