The Panamanian Poultry Industry

In 2012 there was increases of 5.8% in the production of chicken meat and 1.59% in egg production.

A report by the National Association of Poultry Farmers in Panama (ANAVIP) reveals that in 2012 86.9 million birds were slaughtered, and that per capita consumption of chicken went from 77 pounds per year in 2011 to 80 pounds per year in 2012. In addition, egg production grew by 1.59%, going from 491 million units in 2011 to 498 million in 2012, keeping per capita consumption at 132 units annually.

Capital.com.pa reports that "ANAVIP report also notes that in 2012 they managed to place the poultry industry in international markets with processed products worth $6.4 million, representing an increase of 8.5% over the $5.9 million achieved in 2011. However, the export of fertile eggs registered a negative performance in 2012, as it reached $2.7 million, 15.6% less than the $3.2 million recorded in the previous year. "
