Kitchen Ovens: Business with Mexico Up 14%

In the first quarter of 2019, purchases of electric ovens and grills in the region's countries totaled $20 million, and purchases from companies in Mexico increased 14% over the same period in 2018.

Costa Rican Companies, Top Importers
In the first three months of 2019, the main importer of electric cookers and roasters in Central America was Costa Rica with $8 million, followed by Honduras with $4 million, Guatemala with $3.8 million, Panama with $2 million, El Salvador with $1.4 million and Nicaragua with $0.5 million.

Origin of Imports
From January to March, 45% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 27% from the U.S., 16% from Mexico, 4% from Panama Free Zone and 2% from Malaysia.

For the quarter in question of the last eight years the U.S. is the country of origin of Central American imports that has decreased the most, as in 2012 represented 35% of the total value purchased, and in 2019 fell to 27%.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between the first quarter of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the value imported into the region grew 5%, from $18.6 million to $19.6 million.

In the case of purchases from Mexico, these grew 14% for the periods in question, going from $2.7 million to $3.1 million.
