After the deterioration reported in business expectations at the end of 2017, the private sector is setting itself objectives for 2018, working together with the government in the promotion of legal security and the fight against smuggling and corruption.

The deterioration in the perception of the country as a destination for foreign investment is added to the confidence of Guatemalan businessmen. The increase in the total flow of FDI recorded between January and June last year was only 2.3% compared to the same period in 2016. See "Guatemala: Perspectives for Foreign Investment".

The executive director of the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala, Javier Zepeda, told Dca.gob.gt that they are " ... 'willing to help restore confidence in the justice sector, counteract conflict and strengthen institutions'."

"Another of the business priorities is that this year the process of Convention 169 of the International Labor Organization will be regulated and laws passed that generate economic and social development."
