Ironmongery Business in Costa Rica

Imports of tools and ironmongery products reported last year in the country totaled about $500 million, and 21% of purchases were monopolized by four companies.

From the report “Ironmongery products market” in Central America complied by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData:

The report details that during 2017 imports of pipes and their fittings made by companies in the ironmongery sector exceeded $2 million, and 37% of purchases were concentrated by five companies.

Regarding coatings and varnishes purchased by Costa Rican companies abroad, it was reported that last year 31% of imported products were monopolized by four brands.

With respect to the country of origin of ironmongery products that arrive in the country, the report explains that approximately 48% of the value purchased by local companies is from North America, 6% from South America and another 7% from Central American countries.

Regarding the sales points of the ironmongery stores, the companies El Colono and El Lagar are estimated to have the largest number of sales points in the country.
