Bids Invited for Panamanian Metro Bus Administration

The contract worth $15 million is for the financial administration concession of the Metro Bus service.

Panama's Land Transport Authority (ATT) will carry out the tender for financial administration of the capital’s Metro Bus system, a mass passenger transport system.

The main aim of the project is to replace the existing manual payment systems with a more flexible, secure and intelligent mechanism, probably based on contactless technology. The new system should be scalable such that other transport modes can be incorporated at a later date if required.

Sonda will Manage Panamanian Metro Bus

Chilean Consortium Sonda SA won the tender to manage the new mass transit system.

The concession was granted to the firm for a period of ten years.

The government will announce on December 15th, the company responsible for managing the transportation system.

The announcement of the company in charge of collecting payments from users of the transportation system, is a few weeks late.

10 Companies Interested in Panama´s Metro Bus

10 companies participated in the preliminary meeting for bidding on the management of the Metro Bus system.

To the four companies which participated in the previous process, declared void on October 8th, the following companies joined: Unipago, TMS-Telemarca, Taborda Velez Transdata, King Holding and Cable & Wireless Panama.

The first contract for "Metro Bus", a new transportation system, will be awarded on March 29th, 2010.

This project will renew the current bus fleet with air conditioned, high capacity vehicles, but will commence with existing 'Red Devil' buses ("Diablos Rojos").
