Investments Planned for Water and Sanitation

The 2018 budget of the Institute of Aqueduct and Sewers in Panama foresees $187 million for the development of projects such as sewerage works in the city of Santiago.

From a statement issued by from the National Assembly:

With a recommended budget of $352.8 million, of which $187.4 million corresponds to investment, the director of the National Aqueduct and Sewer Institute (IDAAN), Ing. Julia Guardia, presented her fiscal view of 2018.

In her visit to the Budget Committee, chaired by Deputy Luis Barría, the head of the IDAAN explained that next year this entity will 
suffered a budgetary cut of $52 million, which will affect some commitments and projects.

Guardia said that the IDAAN requested a budget of $537.4 million, of which the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) recommended $352.8 million, of which $165.0 million is operational and $187.4 million is for investments.

In this regard, she said that there is a decrease of $27.0 million over the current budget, reflecting $37.4 million in investments and a decrease of $10.4 million in operation.

Among the works planned are the expansion of the water treatment plant Federico Guardia Conte (Chilibre) and Chitre, construction of water treatment plants in the Bayano and Dolega River, renovation of the water system in Puerto Armuelles, Santa Marta, Cerro Punta and Guarumal among others.
