Investment in Free Zones in Nicaragua

The union of Private Free Zones plans to build five new business parks in 2014.

In 2014 the plan is to supercede the investment of $150 million which was made in 2013, with the implementation and establishment of new zones to boost the arrival of new businesses in sectors such Chontales where there is a new bridge over the San Juan river and the new Acoyapa-San Carlos road which is an export route for Puerto Limon, Costa Rica.

Other objectives are to "... expand the capacity of the ships in operation and attract investors in the fields of medicine and technology, these are the plans of the Nicaraguan Federation Chamber of Private Free Zones (FCNZFP), 2014.

The new President of the FCNZFP, Mario Zelaya, said, "We need more industries with technological components, we are placing out bets on assembly of appliances, and at some point on the assembly of cell phones and computers and the future of microchips and semiconductors in order to make a greater technological leap" as a country, says the entrepreneur.

People Walking is a new Spanish company which confirmed in February that it will establish itself in Nicaragua, and has as the basis of its operations developing computing products, especially high-tech software."

Circuit Board Company Starts Operations in Costa Rica

August 2011

General Microcircuits has opened its new plant in Costa Rica, which required an investment of $2 million.

The company, which produces electronic integrated circuit boards, sited its 1,300 m2 plant in the BES zone in Alajuela, where it employs 20 people.

From there, General Microcircuits exports its production weekly to Mooresville, North Carolina, where the product is distributed to the company’s customers

20 new companies in Costa Rica free zones in 2009

December 2008

The Foreign Trade Promoter indicated that there are at least 20 companies in process to operate in the country in 2009.

The entity reported that in 2008 25 new companies were established in the free zones, at a total investment of $32 million. 17 of these companies were service-oriented, while the rest are dedicated to manufacturing exports products.
