Internet Use Growing in Honduras

The number of subscribers to the mobile and fixed Internet services increased from 2.5 million to 2.6 million between December 2016 and September 2017.

According to figures from the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), in the third quarter of last year "... The number of subscribers of fixed internet services reached a total of 245,924 at the end of this quarter of the year, observing a growth of 2.12% compared to the previous quarter. The number of mobile internet subscribers reached a total of 2,111,101, with a growth of 2.95% compared to the previous quarter. "

Regarding the performance of the use of mobile internet services, Danilo Antúnez Mejía, president of the Association of Technological Companies and Communications of Honduras, told that "... the development of mobile telephony has driven growth of the mobile broadband internet, as well as other broadband services."

In relation to the indicators of mobile telephony, Conatel details in its quarterly report that "... The mobile telephone lines reached a total of 7,869,243 subscribers at the end of the third quarter of the year (2017).  The mobile telephone density, which corresponds to the number of mobile telephone lines per 100 inhabitants, reached a value of 89.12% at the end of this quarter of the year, which represents the fact that 89 out of every 100 Hondurans has a mobile telephone line. "

In the fourth quarter of 2017, mobile telephone lines in Honduras totaled just over 8.2 million subscribers, registering an increase of 5% compared to the third quarter of the same year.

According to a report by the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), at the end of 2017 of the total number of mobile telephony subscribers in the country, 662,652 subscribers were using the Post-payment format, representing 8% of the total subscribers, while 7,570,847 corresponded to the Pre-payment format, representing 92% of the total.

As of December 2016, 7.8 million mobile telephone lines and 1.9 million mobile internet subscribers were recorded, demonstrating growth of 1.5% and 17% compared to the previous quarter.

Guatemala: Fixed Lines Growing Faster Than Cell Phone Lines

Between December 2015 and June 2016 the number of fixed telephone lines grew by 40%, while the number of mobile lines grew by only 3% in the same period.

Figures from the Superintendency of Telecommunications in Guatemala show that the number of fixed telephones lines went from 1,710,000 in December 2015 to 2,400,000 in June last year, while the total number of mobile lines increased from 18.1 million to 18.6 million.

Of the total numbers assigned, 26 million, 22.7 million are mobiles and only 3.3 million landlines.

At the end of the first half of 2011 there were 20.2 million registered numbers. Up until the end of August 2012, the Superintendency of Telecommunications (SIT) had delivered 26.03 million, 5.83 million in just over a year.
