International Logistics Forum in Guatemala

Logistics companies in the region will gather together on March 26th and 27th in Guatemala City.

The Union of Guatemala has organized the International Logistics Forum Guatemala 2014, in which issues related to the performance and competitiveness of the global logistics industry will be discussed.

The president of the Union of Logistics, Eliezer Castellanos said to that "This event aims to identify potential improvement in logistics management, comparing global with local practices in order to increase the country's competitiveness."

"As part of the agenda, a conference program will be held with technical and testimonial issues directed at the logistics sector, such as customs modernization in Central America, the customs modernization project in Guatemala, improving competitiveness through performance, developing logistical competitiveness through innovation in logistics, national competitiveness, and modernization of ports:the case of Chile, among others"

Logistics Event in Honduras

Obstacles in Panama Customs Offices

Logistics companies and customs agents have reported inconsistencies in the application of standards and inefficiency and slowness in the computer systems that are used to carry out the processes.

Although the country is the main logistics hub in the region, employers and brokers have pointed out the presence of obstacles, such as poor management of the SIGA computer system, affecting services and preventing an improvement in the competitiveness of Panamanian trade abroad.

Puerto Quetzal Losing Competitiveness

March 2014

The logistics union of Guatemala is demanding greater agility and improvements in customs offices in order to prevent the port terminal to continue reducing competitiveness against the Mexican port of Manzanillo.

The lack of agility in customs procedures and the absence of a law to standardize practices in ports are the reasons why Puerto Quetzal is losing competitiveness against its Mexican neighbor Manzanillo.
