International Event for Textile Companies

From May 14 to 16 in Guatemala, textile exporters from the region will meet with international buyers at Apparel Sourcing Show, to explore business opportunities.

The objective of the event is to allow all members of the Central American industry value chain to expose their capabilities to buyers and promote the integration of the supply chain.

Lucía Palacios, director of Promotion for the Guatemalan Apparel and Textile Association (VESTEX), the event organizer, explained to that "... the increase in exports means new business, which leads to more investment in machinery, technology and other inputs to be found at the Apparel Sourcing Show.

Palacios added that they would like to "... breaking paradigms and eliminating stigmas that the maquila only sews and goes, instead, is a development that goes beyond that. For example, there are currently companies that can extract fibers from plastic bottles and turn them into fabric, and although Guatemala is not a cotton producer, it imports the raw material and transforms it into fabric, the more value the garment has, the greater the volume and quality of exports.

Textile Fair Begins in Guatemala

The XVIII edition of the Apparel Sourcing Show, which will be held from May 19 - 21, will generate about $100 million in business.

The event, which is to be held at Hotel Tikal Futura’s Convention Center, will be attended by entrepreneurs from Colombia, Mexico, Central America and especially the United States.
