International Congress on Bananas

The banana industry in Costa Rica is organizing an international meeting of companies producing and exporting the fruit, which will be held from September 26 to 29.

From a statement issued by the National Banana Corporation (Corbana):

Corbana and the Costa Rican banana industry invite you to participate in the 7th International Banana Congress 2017, from September 26 to 29 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Miami, Florida. 

This meeting will be a commercial showcase that opens up spaces for scientists, exporters, buyers, producers and logisticians from companies linked to the banana world.

In this seventh edition, more than 30 exhibitors will participate, through round tables, panels and lectures, exchanging knowledge, ideas and opinions, to visualize the main challenges of the banana markets and provide the necessary tools to allow greater strengthening of companies and their products.

Honduras: Good Expectations for Bananas

Producers predict to end 2016 with a growth of between 6% and 7% in the export of the fruit.

Philippine Banana Exports Increase

December 2014

The increase in sales of fruit, mostly to Asia, has been attributed to a combination of an increase in the export volume and a price hike.

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Office (Procomer):

The Davao region has recorded a total of $356 million in banana exports in the second quarter of this year, an increase of over 50% compared to the same period last year, when $237 million was generated, according data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Davao.

Opportunity for Bananas in China

September 2014

A drop in local production and the volatility of short-term contracts signed with the Philippines, its leading supplier, has created opportunities to export bananas to China.

From a statement issued by the Foreign Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica (Procomer):

In the first 7 months of this year, Ecuadorian banana exports to China increased by 704.6%, going from $7.7 million in 2013 to $62.2 million in 2014.
