International Conference on Arbitration in Panama

Experts will be meeting in Panama City from 16th to 18th of March to discuss issues and progresses related to arbitration procedures in Latin America and the world.

From a statement issued by the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama:

Panama, February 29, 2016. Panama will host the Conference of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC PANARB 2016) and the third version of the Biennial Conference of the Latin American Arbitration Association (ALARB 2016), which will run from 16 to 18 March, with the aim of highlighting the main progresses and developments in arbitration in Latin America and the world, in order to ensure greater awareness of costs in arbitration proceedings.

This international event is being organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Panama chapter, the ICC Court and the National Committee of the ICC, through its Committee on Arbitration, who will organized the third version of this conference, this time in conjunction with ALARB, an association of more than 300 outstanding arbitration professionals in Latin America.

Panama: New Rules for Arbitration

The event which will be held from February 22nd to 24th in San José will focus on the practice of international arbitration in resolving contractual problems in construction projects.

Among the topics to be discussed during this conference are arbitration in Latin America and its current status, recognition and enforcement of foreign awards in Latin America, the rules of the ICC Dispute Board: the case of the Channel Tunnel, the characteristics of disputes in the construction industry, the future of the Committees of Disputes in Latin America, the resolution of disputes in FIDIC construction contracts, among other things.

IV International Congress of Arbitration

January 2013

Costa Rica will host the Congress which will focus on continental law and the so called Common Law in International Arbitration.

The event will be held on 18 and 19 February this year and will include the participation of prominent lawyers and experts in these legal figures, which are crucial for trade and public-private and multilateral business relations.

Panama makes progress in matters of arbitration

Lecturers and participants from 14 Latin American countries attend arbitration congress.

Panama has made important steps in matters of arbitration regarding a law dating back to 1999 which was included in the latest constitutional reform carried out in 2004.
The country has the largest maritime center in the world and any discrepancies between shipping agents and businesses may be resolved in Panama instead of turning to a court in London, Paris or New York.
