In the first nine months of 2018 in Central America, imports of pharmaceutical products with insulin totaled $23 million, 39% more than the same period in 2017.

Regional business keeps rising
Between the first nine months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value of insulin imported into Central America increased by 39%, from $16.3 million to $22.6 million.

This increase complements the year-on-year increases reported in the period from January to September of the years from 2014 to 2017.

Guatemala, main importer
From January to September 2018, the main buyer of the drug involved was Guatemala, with $6 million, followed by Honduras, with $5.7 million, El Salvador, with $3.7 million, Costa Rica, with $3.6 million, Nicaragua, with $2.2 million, and Panama, with $1.5 million.

Main Sellers
In the first nine months of 201, 24% of the value imported into the region was from Denmark, 10% from India, 9% from Germany and 6% from the USA.

Denmark is the market origin of imports that has grown the most from January to September of the last two years, since in 2017 it represented 10% of total purchases in Central America, and in 2018 that proportion rose to 24%.
