Innovation in Salvadoran Restaurants

To attract clients and counteract the fall in sales, restaurants are offering additional entertainment options.

The crisis in El Salvador has pressured the gastronomic industry to be more creative in the way it attracts clients. Though establishments have experienced drops in sales between 10 and 15%, clients have returned demanding more, and they now request entertainment in addition to good food.

According to Laprensagrafica.com, the president of the Association of Salvadoran Restaurateurs (ARES), Pedro Dalmau, says "that adapting to the demand for entertainment has made the industry increase costs by up to 30%. This includes the payment of electricity, which has increased by up to 100%; the minimum wage increase; and the rise in the costs of raw materials."

Sales of Goods Fall in Guatemala

From January to August 2009, sales of goods dropped 5.8% when compared to the same period of 2008.

Data from the Tax Authority (SAT) shows that with the exception of January and April, monthly data has been always negative.

Sale of vehicles drop 17% in El Salvador

The drop in the sale of vehicles has forces several companies to cut jobs.

The sale of cars in the Salvadoran market has fallen 16.8% so far this year, and could end up at 20% by the end of the year, said the president of the Q Group, Carlos Enrique Quiros.

The president of the Salvadoran Association of Car Distributors, Guillermo Herrador Montalvo, presented the same symptoms and confirmed that the annual sale of cars for the last two years was around 17000 units per year.
