Infrastructure Projects for $275 million

Works on electrical and road infrastructure and jobs in the mining sector are some of the major infrastructure projects awarded in Central America in March 2016.

The report "Construction Projects in Central America", prepared by the Business Intelligence unit at CentralAmericaData.com contains a detailed list of major construction projects taking place in Central America.

The report notes that in Costa Rica, during the month of March a contract was awarded for the "periodic maintenance and renovation of road surfaces on the national road network" to the companies Constructora Meco S.A., Constructora Hernan Solis S.R.L. and Quebradores del Sur de Costa Rica S.A. in the amounts of $115.6 million, $106.9 million and $14 million respectively.

In Panama, a contract has been awarded for the "design and construction of high voltage wiring and new encapsulated electrical substation for the energization of the expansion of Tocumen International Airport" to Celmec, S.A., for an amount of $25.9 million.

In El Salvador a contract was awarded for the "digging of open pits Stage II hydroelectric project El Chaparral" to Compañía de Terracería, S.A. de C.V., in the amount of $13.3 million.

After a $7.4 million investment, Transportista Eléctrica Centroamericana launched the power transmission work that will link the substations of Iztapa and Taxisco.

The completed work that will connect the substations in the departments of Escuintla and Santa Rosa, was awarded in January 2015 and consists of 16 kilometers. These works are part of lot D of the National Transmission Expansion Plan (Petnac).

Awards: Works on Electricity Substations for $22 million

May 2015

In Panama awards were given to Vimac SA and Celmec SA for a contract for carrying out replacement works and addition of replacement equipment in substations and transmission lines.

Empresa de Transmisión Electrica, S.A. (Etesa) awarded to Vimac SA a contract to replace a 230 KW transmission line, valued at $20.4 million and Celmec SA for replacement of a 34.5 KW reactor at the MAta de Nance substation and replacement of 34.5 KW circuit breakers at Substation Progress for $1.6 million.

Guatemala: $87 million for Power Grid

August 2014

With a bank loan the company Transportadora de Energía de Centroamérica will complete the expansion of the electricity transport system in the country.

The Guatemalan subsidiary of Grupo de Energia de Bogota, will use the funds to complete the project investing in energy transport, which is to build and launch more than 850 kilometers of transmission lines and 12 new high voltage substations, as well expansion of 12 existing substations.
