Inflationary Rhythm Still Slowing Down

During November, the CPI in Honduras registered a 3.8% variation with respect to the same month in 2018, an inflationary rhythm lower than the 4.1% rate reported in October.

The monthly variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 0.30% in November 2019, lower than that recorded in the same month of 2018 and 2017 (0.53% and 0.49%, in order), the increase in the index reflects the rise in prices in some food products and fuels, reported the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).

The official document states that "... Thus, year-on-year inflation stood at 3.84%, the lowest rate in the last 26 months, and cumulative inflation per month in reference 2019 reached 3.65%.

The item that presented the highest contribution to inflation in November 2019 was "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" with 0.14 percentage points (pp), followed by "Transport" with 0.04 pp, "Hotels, Coffee Shops and Restaurants" and "Clothing and Footwear" with 0.03 pp, each; while "Furniture and Household Maintenance Items" contributed 0.02 pp; "Accommodation, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels", "Health", "Recreation and Culture" and "Personal Care" each contributed 0.01 pp.

November 2019

During October 2019, the CPI registered a 4.1% variation with respect to the same month in 2018, an inflation rate that is lower than the 4.4% reported in September.

In October 2019, monthly inflation -measured through the variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI)- was 0.24%, lower than the registered in October 2018 (0.56%).

The consumer price index registered a slight monthly variation of 0.03%, due to the increase in the prices of housing rent and some personal care items.

From the Central Bank of Honduras Report:

In September 2018, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a monthly variation of 0.03%, due to the increase observed in the price of housing rents, some personal care items, food consumed in restaurants, furniture and household appliances, which was almost compensated by the negative variation reflected in the national average prices of some agricultural perishable foods. As a result, the accumulated inflation up to September 2018 was 2.90%, lower than the same period of 2017 (3.24%), while the inter-annual inflation was 4.38% (3.66% twelve months ago), remaining within the tolerance range of 4.0% ± 1.0 percentage points, set in the revision of the 2018-2019 Monetary Program.

September 2018

The consumer price index recorded a monthly variation of 0.44%, due to an increase in the prices of urban passenger transport and some items of clothing.

In August 2018, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a monthly variation of 0.44%, mainly determined by higher prices in urban passenger transport, as well some items of clothing.

Honduras: 4.2% YoY Inflation Up to June 2018

July 2018

The consumer price index registered a monthly variation of 0.41%, due to an increase in the prices of fuels, and some foods.

From a report by the Central Bank of Honduras: 

The monthly variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June of this year was 0.41%, driven mainly by higher prices of fuels, some foods and household items.
