Inflation Slows up to June 2019

Between May and June of this year, the inflation rate in Honduras decreased from 5.1% to 4.8%, mainly because of variations in transport prices.

Monday, July 8, 2019

The monthly variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), in June 2019, was 0.09%, lower than the observed twelve months ago (0.41%) and the lowest for this month since 2012, informed the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).

The report states that "... The monthly behavior is mainly associated with the rise in prices of some vegetables and household furniture. With this result, year-on-year inflation slowed to 4.80% and the accumulated reached 2.60%.

Among the CPI groupings, the one that contributed most to the monthly variation was "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" with a participation of 0.15 percentage points (pp); to a lesser extent were "Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels" and "Furniture and Articles for Home Maintenance", with 0.02 pp each, "Personal Care", "Clothing and Footwear", "Health" and "Recreation and Culture" with 0.01 pp each. In contrast, "Transport" contributed -0.14 pp, for the reduction in the pump price of fuels in the domestic market during June.

The higher prices of furniture, articles and services for home maintenance, such as wooden living room and dining room sets, double bed and refrigerators, led to a 0.23% increase in the index for this category.
