Tourist Spending in Panama Increases

In the first nine months of the year an increase of 13.9% was reported in daily spending compared to the same period in 2010.

During the aforementioned period, spending by visitors amounted to $1,397 million, $170 million more than in 2010.

"Although projections by the Panama Tourism Authority indicate that in 2011 the country will surpass the barrier of two million tourists, some business connected with the activity believe that this figure will not be reached.

In order to reach two million visitors in the last three months of the year, 700,000 more tourists would need to enter the country", reported Prensa.com

An announcement has been made of a 12% increase in the number of visitors who came to the country in the first two months of the year compared with the same period in 2013.

Tourists coming to the country in January and February generated foreign exchange of $284 million, up from the $256 million which came in during the first two months of 2013.

The 2.270 million visitors who came to Panama in 2013 stayed on average 9.3 days and spent $168 a day.

The number of tourists who came to Panama last year exceeded the target of 2,250 million set by the Tourism Authority of Panama.

"The month with the highest tourism spending is not necessarily the one with the most tourist arrivals. In March $323.5 million came into the country by way of tourist spending.

Although the rate of increase of Panamanian tourism dropped to 3.7%, the level of what each visitor spends during their stay has risen sharply.

During the first seven months of 2013 the country received 1.3 million tourists, who spent a total of $1.43 billion, up 10.4% compared to the same period in 2012.

Tourism Grows in Panama

The influx of tourists in the first two months of the year increased by 5.7% with the entry of 429,073 visitors.

The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) reported that in early 2012, some 429,073 visitors entered the country, 23,145 more people than in the same period last year, which is a growth of 5.7%.
