Thursday, November 10, 2011

Marketing strategies implemented abroad, coupled with the increasing flow of foreign investment into the country, are two of the main reasons for the notable growth in the number of visitor arrivals to Panama.

In the third quarter of the year, Costa Rica, a major recipient of tourists in the region, recorded a 4% decrease in tourist flow, while Panama experienced an increase of 11%.

In the case of Costa Rica, authorities say the global economic crisis has affected visitor arrivals to the country, while in Panama’s case, the foreign investment the country receives enhances the tourism business.

An article on Prensa.com states: "The Central American Tourism Council’s statistics show that between 2006 and 2010, tourist arrivals grew 43% in Panama, while Costa Rica reported an increase of only 20%.

Solomon Shamah, administrator at the Panama Tourism Authority, said the $600 thousand that was invested in marketing studies have identified tourist preferences in major markets like the U.S., Europe and South America. "
