Printers: Purchases to Japan up 11%

In the first six months of 2019, Central American countries imported $171 million in printing machines and equipment, and purchases from Japanese companies grew 11% compared to the same period in 2018.

Guatemala, Main Buyer
From January to June, the main importer of printing machines and equipment in Central America was Guatemala with $45 million, followed by Costa Rica with $39 million, El Salvador with $32 million, Panama with $30 million, Honduras with $18 million and Nicaragua with $7 million.

Origin of Imports
During the first semester, 43% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 16% from China, 7% from Japan, 5% from Vietnam and 3% from Thailand.

For the period in question of the last eight years, the USA is the market of origin of the imports that has been reduced the most, since in 2012 it represented 70% of the total value purchased, and in 2019 this proportion fell to 43%.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between January and June 2018 and the same period in 2019, the total value imported into Central America decreased by 7%, from $184 million to $171 million.

In the case of purchases from Japanese companies, there was an increase from $10.2 million to $11.3 million, for the periods in question.
