Variation of regional imports
Between 2015 and 2016, the value of imported iron and steel sheets in Central America decreased by 24%, going from $845 million in 2015 to $645 million in 2016.

During the period in question the imported volume fell by 9%, going from 1.2 million tons in 2015 to 1.1 million tons in 2016.

Imports by country
Last year the main purchaser of iron and steel sheets in Central America was Costa Rica, with $162 million, followed by Honduras, with $124 million, Guatemala, with $109 million, El Salvador with $90 million, Nicaragua with $86 million and Panama, with $75 million.

Origin of imports
In 2016, 44% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 20% from Japan, 4% from South Korea and 3% from Mexico.

Price of imports
Between January 2012 and December 2016, the average price per kilo of iron and steel sheet imported into in the region fell by 37%, going from $0.97 to $0.61.
