Changes in imports
Between January and September 2016 the Central America region imported from outside of the Central America region 152 thousand tons of preparations for animal feed, equivalent in value to $200 million. This volume is 9.6% higher than the 139,000 tons imported in the same period in 2015, which generated revenues of $193 million.

Imports by country 
In the first three quarters of 2016 Costa Rica was the main importer of preparations for animal feed from outside of the region, buying 61,098 tonnes, followed by Honduras with 27,330 tons, Panama with 27,026 tons, Guatemala with 23,128 tonnes, El Salvador with 9,802 tons and Nicaragua with 3,706 tons.

Price of regional imports 
During the months between January 2012 and September 2016 the lowest price was $1.06 per kilo, recorded in July 2013 and the highest was $1.52 per kilo corresponding to purchases in January 2014 and November 2015.

Origin of imports 
During the first three quarters of 2016, 30% of the volume imported into Central America came from the US, 21% from Mexico, 10% from Peru, and 7% from Ecuador.
