Main importers
Some the main importers in the region in 2016, and according to value of purchases, were Conducen and St. Jude Medical in Costa Rica, Condusal in El Salvador and Alcap in Panama, who collectively concentrated around 90% of the total purchases made by the Central American countries.

Variation of regional imports 

Between 2015 and 2016, the total volume of copper wire imports in Central America increased by 9%, going from 16,583 tonnes in 2015 to 18,140 tonnes in 2016.

However, the imported value showed the opposite behavior, falling from $103 million bought in 2015 to $96 million in 2016, which is equivalent to a decrease of 7%. 

Price of imports 
During the months between January 2012 and December 2016 the average price per kilo of imports in Central America shows a downward trend, with a price of $7.84 per kilo recorded in January 2012 and in December 2016 $5.26 per kilo, which is equivalent to a 32% drop.

Origin of imports 
In 2016, 93% of the volume imported in Central America came from Chile, 3% from Spain and 1% from the Panama Free Trade Zone.
