Import Controls on Colombian Meat

Due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the South American country, Honduras has tightened prevention and control measures at ports of entry such as ports and airports.

Latribuna.hn reports that "...The relevant measures are aimed at preventing the entry of the disease into the national territory, and maintaining the current health status. In this context a warning has been given of the risks involved in importing live animals, products and by-products of bovine origin from that country."

"..."All of the health and quarantine authorities in countries in the Central American region have received a press bulletin regarding prevention measures in relation to animal goods, passengers and aircraft of Colombian origin," said the director of Senasa, Ricardo Paz. "

"... The official expanded on quarantine and control measures at entrances to seaports, and airports, where cargo is received, and any other means of transportation that could introduce this disease. "We have also increased biosecurity measures to prevent as much as possible the entry or infestation of this fatal disease that could endanger Honduran livestock."

The Ministry of Agricultural Development, through the National Directorate of Animal Health, wishes to communicate that in light of the re-emergence of the virus known as foot-and-mouth disease in Colombia, specifically in the department of Arauca bordering Venezuela, after notification has been sent to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), on 24 June and published on 26 June 2017; Panama is maintaining passive and active surveillance following the health security protocol established for all transborder diseases (including vesicular diseases)."

Costa Rica to Require Certification for Avocado

The country will present itself before the WTO to establish that the import of avocados will be subject to certification showing its precedence from zones free of Sun-Bloch.

The request will be made by Costa Rica through the World Trade Organization (WTO), whose Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures meets this week.
