Ibero-America discusses fostering technology

Representatives from the private and public sectors in Ibero-American countries are in El Salvador debating policies that will promote the use of communication technologies to further development.

The "III Ibero-American Encounter on the United Nations Millennium Objectives and the ICT" gathers representatives from government, from multilateral organizations and from telecommunications companies. The sub-director of Economic Affairs of SEGIB, Argentinean Federico Poli, explained that at the event they will discuss the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as tools to achieve better levels of development and to break the breach of inequality that exists in the various countries of the region.

From 23 to July 26 Latin American telecommunications executives will meet in Panama to discuss how to close the digital divide in the region.

From a press release by the Telecommunications Congress:

Ministers from governments and regulating authorities, CEO's of telecommunications companies, innovators and executives from the private sector, academic experts and representatives from international organizations will participate in a high level meeting related to the XXIII Latin American Summit of Heads of State and Government , which will analyze the challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean in closing the digital divide by 2020.

III Encounter on Information Technology Access

Government and civil society representatives from Ibero-American countries will meet in El Salvador from the 11 to 12 September.

The event, which will be held at a beach hotel located some 84 kilometers south of the capital, is themed "III Ibero-American Encounter United Nations Millennium Development Goals and ICT's."

Investment funds summit to study impact of US sub-prime crisis

June 2008

The Ibero-American Investment Funds Federation (Fiafin) is meeting in Costa Rica on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Some 160 members from 13 nations are expected to attend.

Fiafin aims to make investment funds more attractive to the investing public. The meeting aims to study issues such as innovations in collective products, as well as the impact that the US sub-prime crisis will have on the funds industry in Latin America.
