IMF to install regional center in Guatemala

The installation of the regional Technical Assistance Center (in the Banquat building) is set for April 2009.

The center will have six technical experts who will offer assistance to governments on topics such as: Customs, multiannual budget preparation, and public debt.
The scope of action will be countries in Central America and the Dominican Republic, said Maria Antonieta del Cid de Bonilla, president of the Bank of Guatemala (Banquat).

Sony Opens Regional Office in Panama

Starting January Sony will establish a regional distribution center.

The distribution center will serve electronic parts for the Central and South American markets.

"In addition to distribution of spare parts in Panama-Pacific, these regional offices will market its core products for both regions: Central and South America", reports the article in Prensa.com.

From there it will serve Central America and the Caribbean.

"It is the 31st company setting up its office in Panama under Law 41 2007, which fosters the installation of Regional Headquarters of Multinational Companies", reported Prensa.com.

IMF to Open New Regional Technical Assistance Center

The IMF will open in May 2009 in Guatemala City, its new Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic Technical Assistance Center (CAPTAC-DR).

“CAPTAC-DR is an important component of the IMF’s far-reaching reforms that will enable the Fund to respond more effectively to the emerging challenges of the global economy,” said Murilo Portugal, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.

IMF in talks with Honduras on impact of high oil prices

The impact of high oil prices on the Honduran economy was on the agenda when a technical mission met with authorities from the central bank and finance ministry.

Edwin Araque, governor of the central bank, said that the impact of higher fuel prices was sure to be reflected in the nation's international reserves.
