IDB Announces $ 2.000 Million for CA and Dominican Republic

The President of the IDB announced funding to meet priorities in Central America and the Dominican Republic.

"This year we will maintain our response and commitment to the region," said Alberto Moreno. “The $ 2.000 million” he added, “will be used to address infrastructure priorities, particularly roads, energy, social safety nets, with an emphasis on strengthening health services, education, housing, natural disasters and climate change, finance and public safety.

In 2010 the IDB approved a total of U.S. $ 2.080 million through 43 projects in areas such as infrastructure, social development and fiscal reforms. This reflected a 30 percent increase in approvals with sovereign guarantees from the previous year.

Panama to Receive $ 1.000 Million from IDB

The IDB will make available $ 1.000 million over the next four years to develop infrastructure and energy projects.

Among projects to be developed is the improvement of the bay area in Panama City, programs to strengthen the energy sector, investments in sanitation and drinking water and programs which strengthen fiscal management.

The Government's approval to negotiate two IDB loans is for social and housing programs.

A $ 35 million loan will be allocated for the implementation of the Community Support of Urban Solidarity and a $ 70 million loan to finance the Comprehensive Improvement for Housing and Urban Squatter Settlements Phase II.

Salvadoran Congress To Decide On $531 Million Loans

The Treasury Ministry of El Salvador requested the Legislative Assembly to approve six loans for $531 million with international organizations.

From the total, $200 million are with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), $161.7 million with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and $170 million with the World Bank (WB).
