Hydroelectric: Tender for Generator Maintenance

The National Institute of Electrification of Guatemala tenders the predictive maintenance for the generators and auxiliary production equipment of the Chixoy hydroelectric plant.

Purchase by the Government of Guatemala 13458493:

"Details of the lines to be contracted:

-Line 1: Testing of 5 electrical generators
-Line 2: Testing of 6 power transformers including Bushings
-Line 3: Testing of 8 three-phase circuit breakers, unit, busbar coupling and 230 kV transmission lines
-Line 4: Testing of 5 x 13.8 kV unit circuit breakers
-Line 5: Testing of 24 current transformers, 6 of transmission lines, 15 of generating units and 3 of bar coupling.
-Line 7: Testing of 12 capacitive type potential transformers, 6 transmission line transformers and 6 busbar coupling transformers."

Deadline for the receipt of bids: December 15, 2020.

The exhaustion of the potential of hydroelectricity and social resistance to its use, is bringing to the forefront alternative energy as a solution to meeting electricity demand which is growing at 5% a year.

Energy imports from Central America and Colombia, through the interconnection network and the possibility of building more thermal power plants and renewable options are choices the country has to meet future electricity demand, not only because of social opposition to hydroelectric projects, but also because of the lack of rivers with enough channels to operate a dam.

Guatemala: $99 million Hydroelectric Project

The Environmental Impact Study has been presented for the construction of a 40 MW hydro station called "Central Project Rocjá Pontila" in the department of Alta Verapaz.

The company Proyecto de Desarrollo Integral Pontila S.A presented the environmental impact study to build a hydroelectric project in the Community of Rocjá Pontila, Municipality of Coban, Alta Verapaz.
