Huge Business Center Planned for San Pedro Sula

The companies Diunsa and Supermercados La Colonia have joined forces in this $25 million project to build the 20,000 m2 commercial hub in Honduras.

The ambitious project, which is expected to be completed by next October, comprises the construction of a center including offices, financial plaza, restaurant area, new Diunsa superstore and the first La Colonia supermarket in the north of Honduras. There will also be a gym, parking for 700 vehicles and the largest Adidas store in all of Latin America.

Pedro Cubas, one of Diunsa's corporate directors, commented that Plaza Pedregal, as the center will be known, represents, "a demonstration of faith in this country that this is the right time to invest".

For his part, Leonel Giannini, executive president of La Colonia supermarkets, explained that the partnership will enable the opening of the first of the company's stores in Honduras' industrial capital and called for the region's producers to become suppliers for the new store.

La Colonia opened two supermarkets in the last six months and in June it plans to open its 24th store.

Located in the Premier de Comayagüela Mall, the 1,500 square meter supermarket has generated 60 direct jobs and over 180 indirect jobs.

Latribuna.hn reported quoted Fernando Caceres, La Colonia’s marketing manager who said, "We are extending our services to all areas of our country, we invite all Honduran families in the area north of Tegucigalpa not to miss the amazing variety of national and international products that only La Colonia offers."

This projects will provide about 200 new direct jobs.

The Operations and Development Director of La Colonia, Paul Handal, commented that they will hire mostly local providers.

Supermarket chain "La Colonia" inaugurated its new store in Comayagua, Tegucigalpa, after a $1.6 million investment.

The chain's 16th store in the country has a constructed area of 12.000 square meters.
