Household Goods: Business Outlook

In Central America it is expected that the covid-19 crisis will reduce retail sales of household items, a decline that will be explained partly by the expected fall in sales of articles for interior decoration.

The "Information System for the Impact Analysis of Covid-19 on Businesses", prepared by the Trade Intelligence Unit of CentralAmericaData, measures the impact that the crisis will have on companies according to their sector or economic activity, considering different scenarios for the coming months.

It is expected that in 2020 the income of companies engaged in retail sales of glassware and kitchen tools in the region could fall by up to 16%, if in Central American countries the measures of isolation of people and restriction of mobility decreed by governments are extended for two months.

Another sector that will be impacted, but to a lesser extent, is the retail trade in home and garden furniture

According to forecasts, the impact on the Household Goods Retail business will not be as serious in this context of health alert and restriction of people's mobility, especially when compared to the impact that will be reported in sectors such as Transport, Entertainment or Restaurants.
