Hotels Request to Operate at Maximum Capacity

Arguing that they will be able to maintain social distance in the common areas, the hotel guild in Costa Rica is asking the government to authorize them to operate at 100% of their capacity, and not at 50% as they are currently allowed.

According to the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels (CCH) the total use of hotel rooms does not represent a disadvantage since these spaces are used in family, social bubbles or individually.

Check out the "System for monitoring markets and economic situation in Central American countries", developed by CentralAmericaData.

The statement issued by the businessmen who are members of the CCH is detailed, and they undertake to guarantee that the common areas, such as the restaurants or other meeting points, will be kept at 50% of their capacity, by means of time control and by respecting all security measures.

Javier Pacheco, president of the HCC, explained that "... we are requesting that no percentage limits be established for the maximum capacity of the lodging establishments with the guarantee that the common areas will be maintained at 50% of their capacity or respecting the social distance, as appropriate, complying with the guidelines and sanitary protocols".

Pacheco added that "... Our sector has specific protocols that were approved by the Ministry of Health and the ICT, and as long as they are properly implemented, we could operate in this context."

In the specific case of swimming pools, strict control would be maintained to ensure the minimum distance between people, as established in the protocol for this recreational activity, as detailed in the document.
