In relation to the decision to change the brand, Mariano Beltranena, general manager of Hotel Guatemala City, told that " ... it took them two years to make the decision, because they were aware that the facilities had to be remodeled after 21 years of operations."

Beltranena added that " ...To make the decision they relied on an auction method, where international chains such as Marriott also showed interest in investing in the remodeling. However, the Hilton executives put forward a better proposal and that is how they made the decision to sign a contract with them, under the franchise model."

In addition to nights free, hotels are offering spa credits, adjoining rooms, discounts on seven-day packages and free meals. Loews Hotels is even offering up to 20 percent off if guests book 60 days in advance. Westin Hotels and Resorts’ senior vice president Sue Brush said that the chain will forgo glossy magazine ads in luxury pubs and promote more online and in newspapers, enhancing their “value message.”
