Honduras could lose $140 million energy investment

An investment of 140 million dollars by Energía Eólica de Honduras is in danger of being abandoned.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

An offer from the government of the Dominican Republic to develop the project there, with an offer of 12.50 American cents per kilowatt hour has reached the ears of the investors, who are still trying to get the Honduras government to sign a contract.
The company's project, put forward by the Honduras Wind Energy Project 2000, is to use wind energy in the municipalities of Santa Ana and San Buenaventura. It would provide 60 megawatts of clean, renewable energy at competitive prices.
Company officials say their latest offer was to provide wind power for 10.5 cents per kilowatt hours, but the Honduras government has not replied.
Energía Eólica is a subsidiary of Mesoamerica Energy.
