Honduras benefits from boom in cocoa prices

With world prices at their highest in a decade, Honduras is reaping the rewards of a cocoa boom, said Aníbal Anaya, president of the nation's cocoa producers' association.

Ayala said that though producers have processed only about 100 metric tons this year, Honduras has so far earned at least US$1.5 million in exports.
With world market prices ranging from US$2,700 to $2,800 a metric ton, Ayala said that Honduras will earn more from cocoa exports this year than it did in 2007, despite lower production.

High oil prices have sparked a boom in motorcycle sales in Costa Rica.

Last year Costa Rica imported 37,500 motorcycles at a total cost of US$36.8 million, up from 17,700 and US$23.7 million in 2006.
In the first four months of this year alone, Costa Rica imported 15,600 motorcycles.

Nicaragua broadens its external meat markets

Markets for Nicaraguan beef have increased rapidly in recent years, expanding beyond traditional buyers like the United States and Central America to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Taiwan and Venezuela. About 500 tons a month are being exported to these destinations from four local meat processors.

Venezuela is the newest market.
