Honduras : $127 million For Wind Project

The delayed construction of the wind power project to generate 50 MW in San Marcos will be funded by international banks.

The Dutch Development Bank (FMO) announced that five international financial institutions have provided loans for $127.5 million to finance a 50 MW wind power project in San Marcos. The project is owned by Vientos de Electrotecnia, a member of the Terra Group and includes the installation of 25 Gamesa wind turbines.

According to the FMO "the loans were provided by the Netherlands through Development Finance Company FMO , the financial institution for German development DEG- Deutsche Investitions -und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH, PROPARCO, the investment arm of the private sector development French agency Agence Française de Desarrollo, the OPEC Fund, the OPEC Fund for International Development and the ICCF, the fund for Global Climate Change".

"The commercial operation of the wind farm will begin in early 2015. The company will also build substations and interconnection lines to allow for connection to the national grid."

The company Vientos de Electrotecnia has started testing its wind turbines at the plant in San Marcos, Choluteca, and projects that the formal start of operations will be in the first half of December.

With a total investment of $140 million the wind farm in San Marcos will produce 50MW using 25 wind turbines of 2 MW each.

The letter of credit issued by Citi to Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy is for the import of 25 turbines for the 50MW wind farm Orosi, to be built in Guanacaste.

The Spanish company Gamesa is the beneficiary of the letter of credit for the import and installation of 25 turbines in the wind farm being developed by Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy in the area of Quebrada Grande, near Liberia, Guanacaste.

The Spanish company Iberdrola has announced an $84 million agreement with Terra Group for the development of the turnkey construction project in San Marcos de Colon.

The government has finalized three agreements for electricity generation in wind farms which will produce 94 megawatts of clean energy.
