Honduras: Remittances Increase 13% in 2019

Last year the country received $5,524 million in family remittances, an amount that exceeds by 13% the amount reported in 2018.

From the report of the Central Bank of Honduras:

Of the total number of people surveyed 69.5% indicated that they send remittances from their country of residence to Honduras, with a monthly average amount of US$542.7, an amount that exceeds that reported in the survey applied in January 2018 (US$486.6).

By country of residence, in the January 2020 survey 80.3% of those surveyed stated that they lived in the United States, reflecting a 0.2 percentage point (pp) reduction when compared to what was reported by those interviewed in the same month of 2019 (80.5%).

In Spain resides 7.8% (4.4% in January 2019), making it the second country where Hondurans live abroad, according to the results of the survey, followed by Costa Rica with 2.1% and Mexico with 1.6%. Meanwhile, 8.2% of those surveyed said they live in eleven other countries, including Canada, Panama, Dominican Republic, Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Germany.

In the first six months of this year, the country received $2.685 million in family remittances, an amount 11% higher than that reported in the same period in 2018.

Figures from the Central Bank of Honduras show that between January and June 2018 and the same period this year the flow of family remittances grew by $266 million, from $2.419 million to $2.685 million.

In the first five months of this year, the country received $2.346 million in family remittances, 9.6% more than in the same period in 2018.

Figures from the Central Bank of Honduras show that between January and May 2018 and the same period this year the flow of family remittances grew by $206 million, from $2.140 million to $2.346 million.

Honduras: Remittances Up 10%

May 2018

During the first four months of 2018, remittances received from abroad totaled $1.579 billion, 10% more than was received in the same period in 2017.

According to figures from the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH), between January and May 3, 2018 the country received $1.579 billion in remittances, an amount that exceeds by 10% the $1.433 billion registered in the same period last year.

El Salvador: Remittances Up at Start of the Year

February 2018

In January 2018 remittances received by the country amounted to $381 million, 10% more than in the same month in 2017.

From a statement issued by the Central Bank of El Salvador:

In January 2018, US $380.6 million was received in the form of family remittances, growing by 10.3% and exceeding the income received under this concept in the same period of the previous year by US $35.6 million, reported the Central Reserve Bank.
