Honduras Prepares Tender for Medicines

The Ministry of Health has announced that it is preparing for the end of January the purchase of medicines worth approximately $23 million.

The strategic plan that the Ministry of Health aims to implement in 2015 not only includes the purchase of medicines but also their distribution and use. It is expected that the process for purchasing and distributing the medicines will be started by the end of this month .

The Deputy Minister of Health in Honduras, Sandra Pinel told Elheraldo.hn that "... They have established that they can make monthly deliveries to hospitals so that the medication starts arriving and can be distributed to hospitals and after this wait for the results of the first purchase. For this they have more than $23 million available for this year's competition. "

"... Pinel confirmed that there will be a commission to oversee the 28 hospitals in Honduras in order to strengthen transparency in the management of medicines. "

Due to the fact that no offers were received for 61 drug lines in the $240 million tender held on July 10, a new contest is being prepared for the coming weeks.

Medications for which no proposals were received include several commonly used drugs such as acyclovir, benzocaine, sugar-free expectorants, chloramphenicol, dapsone, and some types of anti-inflammatories, among others.  

Panama: Medicines Tender Being Prepared

The Social Security Department is preparing for the end of April the documents for the tender of 514 different types of drugs classified as essential, chronic and not so essential.

This tender will be held in the form of unit price and aims to secure the provision of drugs for one year. The amount of investment has not yet been defined, nor the details of the specifications to be established.

Medicine Tender Announced in Honduras

October 2014

The Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS) has announced that it intends to carry out the process in October in order to begin distributing medicines in November.

The process for the next competition will be held in conjunction with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for around $2.2 million in basic medicines.
