Honduras: Loan to Renovate Hydroelectric Station

The Inter-American Development Bank has approved a $23 million loan to renovate the Canaveral - Rio Lindo hydro station and its connection to the national grid.

From a statement issued by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB):

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a loan to Honduras for $23 million for the renovation of infrastructure for generation at the Canaveral - Rio Lindo hydro station; renovation of transmission assets that connect the station to the national grid; and improving operational and commercial efficiency of generation management of the National Electricity Company (ENEE).

In order to recover and retain the ability to generate electricity from renewable sources and contribute to the security of the energy supply in the country, this project to be executed by the ENEE, is expected to generate the following benefits: (i) extension of the complex's lifespan by at least 30 years; (Ii) ensuring the supply of nearly 10% of the electricity demand in the country, at lower cost; (Iii) improvement in generation efficiency and increasing installed capacity by 20.8 MW; (Iv) reducing CO2 emissions; and (v) better business management capacity of electricity generation.

Renewable Energy: $500 million for New Plants

The Congress of Costa Rica has finally approved a $500 million loan for the state electricity company to carry out electric generation and transmission works, including three geothermal plants.

Of the total amount of the loan with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved by the Legislative Assembly, close to $200 million will be used to finance the Pailas II, 50 MW, and Borinquen I, 55 MW geothermal projects, both in Liberia, Guanacaste. 

IFC to Finance Hydropower Station in Honduras

The IFC, a member of the World Bank and Oesterreichische Entwicklungsbank AG (OeEB) will provide $98 million to fund the largest hydropower project in Honduras, to be built by Compañía Hondureña de Energía Renovable S.A. (COHERSA).

Hydroelectric Station Financed for $10.5 million

The Inter-American Investment Corporation has approved a loan for the Panamanian hydroelectric project ‘San Lorenzo’, a plant that will generate 40 GWh per year.

The IIC loan to San Lorenzo Hydro, S.A. in Panama will help to promote renewable power generation.

$8 million for Hydroelectric Power Plant in Honduras

June 2011

The IDB loan to the company Renewable Generation and Environmental S.A., will help the implementation of the Los Laureles hydroelectric plant.

The Los Laureles project to be built on the Atlantic coast in the municipality of La Masica, will have an installed capacity of 4.8 MW.
